It's supposed to be the Information Age, right? So why is it still so hard
sometimes to have up-to-date business information right at your fingertips?
A new solution powered by Microsoft Office 2000 called a digital dashboard
could help you address that problem.  Solve information overload by
consolidating your key business information - e-mail, key documents,
real-time data, and even external Web information - in one customizable
screen in the Outlook 2000 messaging and collaboration client.  And with
one-click access to all of the rich analysis and communication tools in
Office 2000, you can quickly drill down from the big picture into the
details to gain insight and take action.  To find out more about digital
dashboards and to view an online demo, go to:

Check out the sites recently added to the FrontPage gallery, including
Byzant, MySpaceStore, and the National Anthropological Archives. The
gallery highlights FrontPage-based Web sites created by users of all skill
levels.  If you think your site would make a nice addition to the FrontPage
gallery, please send e-mail to <>  See the sites at:

Office 2000 Server Extensions (OSE) enable collaboration services based on
the latest suite of desktop applications from Microsoft.  And the good news
for FrontPage users is that the technical knowledge required to work with
Office 2000 Server Extensions is similar to that required for hosting
FrontPage Server Extensions. With very little deployment time, you could
add new collaborative opportunities and capabilities to your Internet or
intranet sites. For an overview of OSE features and architecture,
management, and security view the OSE Seminar Online at:

As every Web designer knows, the size of your image files can
significantly increase page download times. One way to reduce
download times, of course, is to reduce the size of your images.

But that means more than just resizing the image in FrontPage Editor or in
the Page view in FrontPage 2000. When you drag an image's size handles to
make it smaller, you're not actually decreasing the file size.  Instead,
you're simply reducing the "window" through which the file is viewed.
(That's why the estimated download time indicator at the bottom of the
FrontPage window doesn't change.)

To decrease the file size once you've resized the image, then, you need to
click the Resample button on the Image toolbar (the Pictures toolbar in
FrontPage 2000). Doing so will reduce the actual file size to match the
image's new proportions. In most cases, it will also significantly improve
the image's appearance.

The above tip comes from Inside Microsoft FrontPage, a ZD Journals
publication. For a free* issue, visit:

Use this script on Web pages that include long dropdown lists to allow
visitors to your Web site to immediately locate an item in a long options
list just by typing. With each character the user types in the text field,
the available items listed are narrowed down (similar to a help file's
index feature). To include this script in your Web pages simply follow the
instructions at:

When you create an HTML document in Office 2000, Office-specific markup
tags are embedded in it. These tags help "round-trip" the document for
editing purposes. The Office HTML Filter is a tool you can use to remove
these Office-specific markup tags embedded in Office 2000 documents. By
removing the tags, you reduce the size of the document, which in turn
reduces both the amount of space used on Web servers as well as the time it
takes to download the page. Please note: download is in US English only.

Tripod, a Lycos Network site, provides free Web site hosting for your
FrontPage 2000-based Web sites, and is a member of the Web Presence
Provider program for the FrontPage 2000 Web site creation and management
tool.  Tripod provides fast-growing and interactive community, stimulating
content, and wide-ranging e-commerce opportunities to more than four
million members worldwide. To find out more about how to host your
FrontPage-based Web site for free on Tripod, see:
